Following the huge success of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign helped in no small part by his use of Social Media it was only a matter of time before Irish politicians followed suit.
I received this email yesterday.
This is the Facebook page
It seems the Greens have really embraced Social Networking as a way of harvesting votes.
And they are coming at it from all angles with a Viral Video Competition.
Well I suppose it’s more environmentally friendly than printing off thousands of flyers.
Are there laws against polluting cyberspace?
I haven’t seen any on Twitter yet. So shhhhh, don’t tell them about it.
Anyone else with similar emails from social politicians?
Did they have your permission to email you?
They certainly didn’t have mine!
To be honest I’m not sure. I signed up for newsletters/press releases etc. with various political parties to get content for my magazine a number of years ago. So I guess in that case I suppose they did as I would have supplied my email address.
Derry,
There are a few politicians on Twitter however I don’t follow any them so cant tell you all of them.
Try: @FineGaelIreland @FineGaelNews @JPPhelan (joined yesterday) @LCreighton and @fiannafailparty (although they have only one follower which seems about right and he’s a councillor @damienblake)
